Green Bay Police appeal for public's help in Xiong case
Green Bay Police Department investigators held a press conference yesterday (July 17) to offer an update on the search for a 21-year-old UW-Green Bay senior missing since early Friday. Mahalia Xiong (pronounced Ma-ha-LEE-ya Zhong) was driving a white four-door Sable with Wisconsin plates TFD-715. Police are asking Oneida and Mason street businesses — located along Xiong's likely route home after a night out in Ashwaubenon with friends — to review any security videotapes that might have captured her car passing. For the Press-Gazette story, see http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070718/GPG0101/707180576/1207/GPGnews.

Counseling and Health Center offers support to students
The following is a statement to all students:

"The recent news of missing UW-Green Bay student Mahalia Xiong has impacted the entire UW-Green Bay community; and we understand that many of you may experience various levels of concern. Events such as this can evoke strong emotions regarding seemingly unrelated issues in people's lives, so please be especially aware of students' and colleagues' reactions in the days ahead. This is a reminder the UW-Green Bay Counseling and Health Center and its counselors are available to offer their support. The Center can be contacted at 465-2380 Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm."

Candlelight Vigil is scheduled for Friday night
Friends of Mahalia Xiong have scheduled a community candlelight vigil as a way to show support for family and friends as they search for their missing daughter and friend. The gathering is scheduled for 9 p.m. Friday (July 20) at the Lambeau Field parking lot, on Oneida Street near the Resch Center. Organizers say, "We need all the support we can get from all of our friends." Sue Keihn, representing the University as dean of students, will be among those sharing very brief remarks.

Facebook page, website extend search
Those leading the search for the missing UW-Green Bay student are taking to the Internet to publicize the effort. See http://mahaliaxiong.pleasehelpfind.org/.

Snapshot in front-page rotation is reminder
Several Log readers have observed, correctly, that a group photograph that includes Mahalia Xiong continues to be displayed, in random rotation with about a dozen other photos, as the featured UW-Green Bay image at the institution's front page at http://www.uwgb.edu. This photo captures a half dozen students at the Southeast Asian Student Union booth during a campus activities fair; Xiong, known to many on campus and an officer of the organization, is at far right. The University Communication Office acknowledges the photo carries significant poignancy this week, but hopes the image is also a reminder that the search is ongoing.
