Good news from Madison: Regents approve applied studies degree
The UW System Board of Regents this morning gave final approval to UW-Green Bay's Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) Degree, which will make a bachelor's degree more accessible for Northeastern Wisconsin residents with technical college degrees. BAS students will be able to transfer associate degrees from technical colleges into UW-Green Bay as a block of 60 credits. Students then will complete 60 additional credits that satisfy UW-Green Bay general education requirements, requirements for the Interdisciplinary Studies major and all other graduation requirements. Watch for a news release on the Regents action later today at http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/page/.

Chancellor lauds Regents, faculty for action on BAS degree
UW-Green Bay Chancellor Bruce Shepard issued the following statement after the Board of Regents approved the Bachelor of Applied Studies Degree: "This degree opens brighter futures for many of the people of the region that we proudly exist to serve. Our degree is distinctive in that it incorporates UW-Green Bay's unique 'connecting learning to life' approach. I am particularly proud of our faculty. In their developing this degree, I believe we are reclaiming our tradition of being a leader in responding to higher education challenges during a period of major transition in American higher education."
