Hendrickson Community Center dedication is today
There's still time to get over to the Residence Life complex for today's naming and dedication of the Philip J. and Elizabeth B. Hendrickson Community Center. The Hendricksons, longtime friends and supporters of UW-Green Bay, are being honored for their invaluable service and contributions to academic and student life at the University. The community center, centrally located in the Residence Life complex, is a gathering spot and service facility for the nearly 2,000 students who live on campus. More detail about the Hendrickson's deeds and today's ceremony is online at http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2007may.htm#dedication.

Commencement featured largest class, 1000th master's, honorary doctorate
UW-Green Bay made history at the 38th spring commencement Saturday with a record number of graduates, the 1000th master's degree and the fifth honorary doctorate in the University's history. Nearly 750 graduates, an all-time high, were eligible to receive their degrees Saturday during ceremonies at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. Commencement speaker William Gollnick, chief of staff of the Oneida Tribe of Indians of Wisconsin, urged the graduates to "make us all proud." Stacey Kreitz, who earned her master's in Social Work, was recognized as UW-Green Bay's 1000th master's degree recipient. And Paolo Del Bianco, an entrepreneur and humanitarian, came from Florence, Italy, to receive the fifth honorary doctorate awarded in the University's history. Cost of Gov. Doyle's 'Wisconsin Covenant' estimated at $139 million
Gov. Jim Doyle's "Wisconsin Covenant" proposal, which promises a seat in the UW System to students who stay out of trouble and get good grades through middle school and high school, would increase financial aid subsidies $139 million over a six-year period, according to the Doyle administration. Already, more than 1,000 eighth-graders have signed up for the plan even though the Legislature has not yet approved it.
