Already under way: Presentation by dean candidate Howe
On-campus interviews of the finalists for the position of dean of liberal arts and sciences continue. The candidates meeting schedules will include presentations to the campus community, which are open to the public. Robert Howe, director of the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity and the Barbara Hauxhurst Cofrin Professor of Natural Sciences, was scheduled to make his presentation today (Monday, May 7), from 3 to 4 p.m., in Alumni Rooms A and B of the University Union. The third and final candidate, Prof. Scott Furlong, is scheduled to present on Tuesday (May 8) from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the 1965 Room. See http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2007apr.htm#finalists.

Phoenix basketball announces Bollant as new women's coach
The selection of Matt Bollant was announced today (Monday, May 7) as new Phoenix women's basketball. Says Chancellor Bruce Shepard, "He was the consensus choice of our players as well as campus and community members who helped in the coaching search." Bollant spent five seasons at Bryan (Tenn.) College, where the Lions recorded a 134-38 record (.779 winning percentage) and four straight NAIA tournament appearances. Prior to that, Bollant served as an assistant coach for Kathi Bennett at Indiana University for two seasons (including a Big Ten championship and NCAA bid in 2002) and Evansville University for three years. Bollant got his coaching start in the mid-1990s at Tigerton (Wis.) High School, where he led the upstart Tigers to an impressive 63-10 record over three years. He is a 1994 graduate of Winona State (Minn.) University. For more, click http://uwgbathletics.cstv.com/.

Chancellor announces planning, budget reorganization
Chancellor Bruce Shepard today announced a reorganization of UW-Green Bay's planning and budget process. The change is intended to make the process more efficient and effective. As a result of the reorganization, budget administration will be integrated into the Office of Business and Finance under the direction of Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance Tom Maki. Institutional research will move to the Office of the Provost under the direction of Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Sue Hammersmith. The position of assistant chancellor for planning and budget will be phased out. The chancellor also charged vice chancellors Hammersmith and Maki — in consultation with the appropriate campus governance bodies — with evaluating the University's strategic budgeting function. Their recommendations will be announced in the near future.

A particularly photogenic spring Founders reception
The work of top-notch student photographers — and writers and artists and others — was in the spotlight at last week's well-attended Founders Association spring reception at the Weidner Center. The photos tell the story at http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/photoarch/events/07foundersrecep1.htm.

A 'Photoblog' look at students, portraits side-by-side
Oversize personality portraits of each of the student exhibitors were a much-remarked-upon feature of the Founders Reception. Spring 2007 photo intern Matt Becker was responsible for the portraits on display; Fall 2007 intern Matt Robinson documented the net results, with students and their portraits, side-by-side. Photo coverage: Big turnout for Doyle's health care forum on campus
A sizeable audience packed Phoenix Room A for a healthcare forum hosted by Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle last Friday. Community members joined students, faculty and staff for the event. For photos, see http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/page/photo.htm.

Reminder: Employee Recognition Day, a cookout... AND a Food Drive
UW-Green Bay will be honoring the efforts of Faculty and Staff (especially those who are retiring this year) at the annual Campus Cookout, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 8, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Phoenix Sports Center. Faculty and Staff are encouraged to wear their UW-Green Bay apparel. We will also have a food drive during the cookout. Please bring any non-perishable food items to the cookout, and we will donate them to Paul's Pantry on behalf of the Faculty and Staff of UW-Green Bay.
