Already under way: Presentation by dean candidate Furlong
On-campus interviews of the finalists for the position of dean of liberal arts and sciences wrap up this afternoon with a final presentation to the campus community, open to the public. Prof. Scott Furlong, chair of Public and Environmental Affairs and co-director of the FOCUS program, was scheduled to make his presentation today (Tuesday, May 8) from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Union's 1965 Room. See http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2007apr.htm#finalists.

This note from Facilities Management: "There will be a scheduled electrical blackout for routine maintenance at the heat/chill plant only on Monday, 5/21, from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Campus buildings will NOT have electrical service interrupted, but steam, chilled water, and compressed air will be lost. Consequently there will be no building heat, hot water, or air conditioning. Ventilation fans will run with minimum outside makeup air provided. Please plan accordingly."
Bollant selection as new women's coach draws positive press
The selection of Matt Bollant as new Phoenix women's basketball coach received extensive play on local sports pages this morning. The Green Bay Press-Gazette coverage is typical, at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070508/GPG020101/705080573/1225/GPGsports.
Shorewood gets a Wisconsin "top five" rating from Journal-Sentinel columnist
Popular, award-winning Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel columnist Dennis McCann has offered his top 25 destinations for summer fun (hiking, canoeing, picnicking, etc.) in Wisconsin. He also devotes five spots to new or unheralded golf courses to play, and yielded the choices to golf guide author Jeff Mayers, who named:
1. Teal Wing Golf Club near Hayward
2. Forest Hills Golf Course, La Crosse
3. Shorewood Golf Course, Green Bay
4. Riverside Golf Club, Janesville
5. Old Hickory Country Club, Beaver Dam
Of Shorewood, Mayers told McCann: "This pretty course gave up nine holes years ago for the UW-Green Bay campus, but the remaining, wooded tract near Lake Michigan is a nice stop on to the way to or from Door County." To see the column, click http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=596434.
Snapshots: Students, donors enjoy each other's company
Last Tuesday's annual Scholarship Reception at the Weidner Center's Fort Howard Hall was well-attended, well-received by both donors and student recipients, and... well... just an all-around, first-class event. See the photo page at http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/photoarch/events/07scholarship.htm.
Rising scholar, Class of '97, returns as visiting lecturer
Last month's Historical Perspectives Lecture Series address by Prof. Jillian Duquaine-Watson involved the successful return to campus of a Green Bay-grown scholar. See http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/photoarch/people/07jillian.htm.
