Vol.
39, No. 32, November 14, 2007 / Log Archive
We figured that subject line — "Romance, accreditation and rock'n'roll!" — would draw you in — it's the 1960s rallying cry updated for a mature, academic audience. Without further delay, here's a bonus, mid-week edition of the LOG newsletter:
• Statement on HLC visit expected shortly
• Loving comes to campus
• Photo gallery: first Kress concert
• Add to French festivities
• Photo gallery: vets reception
• Channel 11 video
• LOG returns Thursday
Visiting HLC team offers feedback to campus leaders
The six-member team from the Higher Learning Commission wrapped up its three-day tour of UW-Green Bay earlier this morning. The panel met with campus, community and alumni representatives in dozens of meetings, concluding with debriefings with the Chancellor and other University officials. Does UW-Green Bay merit a full 10-year re-accreditation? What are their observations and concerns, if any? Look for a news summary momentarily (actually, early this afternoon) with a synopsis of the team's findings.
UW-Green Bay hosts Dr. Loving for talk on romance, healthy relationships
His name really is Tim Loving, and he is an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin and a rising, nationally recognized scholar on close relationships and stress in romantic relationships. He'll address the topic "You + Me = We + Stress: Dating, Physiology, and the Relationship Support Process" in a free public presentation Tuesday, Nov. 27, at noon in the 1965 Room of the University Union. Prof. Denise Bartell, Human Development and the campus Healthy Relationships Task Force arranged to bring Loving to Green Bay. Look for more closer to the event, but mark your calendars.
Photo gallery: First big Kress concert was outstanding party
Do students still raise lighters? Do lead singers still climb around on amps and scaffolding? Does a first-rate show at a brand-new, first-rate venue out-draw everything else in town on a busy weekend night? For answers on the Kress Events Center debut concert held Nov. 10, and excellent photos by intern Matt Robinson, visit http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/photoarch/events/07kecconcert.htm.
Add to French festivities: Visiting artist to lecture on Molière
A lecture by actor Tim Mooney has been added to the list of special events later this month celebrating French language and culture. Mooney will present "The Life of Molière," from 12 :30 to 1 :45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in Theatre Hall 310. All events are free and open to the public:
November 20: Victoria Vox, "the French Concert," 7:30 p.m., Christie Theatre
November 29: "The Life of Molière" lecture, 12:30-1:45 p.m., TH 310
"Molière Than Thou" (theatre production by Tim Mooney) 7 p.m., University Theatre
The events are sponsored by Le Cercle francais, UWGB. If you have any questions, please contact meyern@uwgb.edu.
Also, photo gallery of vets reception
A special presentation to Jan Snyder. Visits by Rep. Jim Soletski, Rep. Karl Van Roy, and Sen. Dave Hansen. A good turnout. UW-Green Bay held its annual Veteran Appreciation Reception on Monday (Nov. 12) to laud and thank the men and women of UW-Green Bay who have served their country in the armed forces. Channel 11 had video on vets day
Excellent TV coverage by Fox 11 of Monday's UW-Green Bay veterans tribute. The piece quoted Chancellor Shepard regarding how veterans enrich the learning experience, and quoted a young military man as to the warm campus reception.
