News release: Western Washington chooses Shepard
Shepard meets the press
WWU's announcement
Media posts

Shepard is choice to lead Western Washington University
Chancellor Bruce Shepard is the preferred candidate to become the next president of Western Washington University, Western's Board of Trustees announced at 1 p.m. Central today (Wednesday, April 23). For our news release, click: http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2008/08-115.htm

Shepard meets the press
Bruce Shepard met with members of the Green Bay area media at a mid-afternoon news conference in the University Union. He reflected on his proudest accomplishment. From the beginning of his tenure here, Shepard has wanted "to take the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and make it Green Bay's University of Wisconsin.
"I think we've made significant progress there in creating a sense of ownership. What's special about that is we care about those things we own. Those things we own, we want those to succeed, and boy, the people have stepped forward to make this university successful. That's what I'm most proud of." Shepard says with the community support, Growth Agenda funding and students of tomorrow, the pieces are in place to keep the university moving forward. "This is a very strong university," he said. "Its strength, I believe, rests on the quality of the people here at the university certainty, but (also) as a partnership with the community. I think that's been demonstrated over and over again. Our real strength is that this just isn't the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. It's that this is Green Bay's University of Wisconsin. We've seen that pay off for the community and for the University through things like successful construction of the Kress Events Center, the Growth Agenda and its funding."
