Vol. 39, No. 108, April 24, 2008     /     Log Archive

Speculation on UW-Green Bay's pick for the fifth chancellor in its history? We don't like to play that game, but the early buzz is all about Christopher Williams or Brian Brohm or Antoine Cason or ...wait... forget it... those are predictions for the Packers draft on Saturday. Our bad. Although, really, isn't every one looking for somebody with a "high motor," an above-average Wonderlic and the capacity to make an immediate impact? In the end, we'll probably just take the best chancellor available. And, in both cases, it's going to be tough to fill No. 4's shoes. In real news today:

'Giant' of a leader
Boy, talk about having some lofty press clippings to live up to! The people at Western Washington were beaming Wednesday about their preferred presidential candidate, UW-Green Bay's Bruce Shepard. Check this clip from the Seattle Times: Western board President Kevin Raymond said it was clear that Shepard was a standout candidate from the beginning. Somebody involved in the search had described him as a "giant among giants," Raymond added, which he agreed with. The Bellingham Herald wrote it this way: "As (the search committee) looked at Dr. Shepard, who was the first person we interviewed, it was really interesting to me that after he left, we thought, 'We're done. How is anyone else going to be able to keep up with this?' " Ted Pratt, dean of students and a member of the search committee, told board members Wednesday, "We saw a number of giants, and I have to say, Bruce is a giant."
