Reminder: student showcase is Wednesday afternoon
UW-Green Bay tends to pride itself on the hands-on scholarly and creative work of its students. Don't forget to sample that work at the seventh annual Academic Excellence Symposium from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday (April 9) in the Union. Details at http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2008/08-73.htm.

Jump, jive and wail at Third Thursdays program
Tap your foot to bebop and cool jazz melodies at the next Downtown Third Thursdays program on April 17. Prof. John Salerno, director of Jazz Studies, will present live and recorded jazz styles from noon until 12:45 p.m. at the Baylake Bank City Center, 301 N. Adams St., Suite 110. The event, occurring during Jazz History Month, is free and open to the public: http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2008/08-86.htm.

Check out new 'Zine Scene' at Library
As part of National Library Week 2008, Profs. Sarah Detweiler and Stephen Perkins will officially dedicate the Cofrin Library's Zine Collection, and discuss the popularity of zines today. The program takes place Monday (April 14), at 12:30 p.m. on the library's fourth floor.

Another chance to learn the ropes
The Kress Events Center invites faculty and staff to take an orientation class for using the climbing tower. Indoor climbing is a sport that develops flexibility, balance, and mental focus, as much as strength. Longtime climbers David Voelker (HUS and History) and spouse Ruth Homrighaus will teach basic climbing and belaying techniques. The class is free for all faculty and staff, and it will take place on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please call the Kress Center at 465-2449 to register, as slots are limited. All necessary equipment will be provided. Wear comfortable athletic clothing that will allow for free movement. E-mail David Voelker (voelkerd@uwgb.edu) with any questions.

Save the date for 10th Fall Conference
The Institute for Learning Partnership asks that you mark your calendar for its 10th annual Fall Conference — Thursday (evening) and Friday, Oct. 9-10. The conference theme is "Closing the Achievement Gap Through Culturally Responsive Teaching." Click for details at http://www.uwgb.edu/learnpart/fall_conference.html.

For more, http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2008/08-74.htm.

'Breast-Fest and Testi-Palooza'
Half of advertising is just getting people's attention, and they got ours. A group of RAs and a student community council from Residence Life have organized Cancer Awareness Week, April 7-10. Their materials advertise programs titled "What is Cancer," "How to Give Yourself Cancer" and "Breast-Fest and Testi-Palooza!!" Look for posters around campus.
