This is the LOG newsletter, an in-house publication for faculty and staff of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. This edition is also being broadcast to student e-mail accounts.
Final confirmation of Obama rally
Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama is scheduled to
speak at a campaign rally at 5 p.m. this Friday (Feb. 15) at the
4,000-seat Kress Events Center. The Obama Campaign says doors
will open at 3 p.m., presumably to allow suitable time for attendees
to pass security and take their seats. Bags and signs are prohibited.
Ticket update? (See items below.)
Notice: Late change of location for Thursday's Obama ticket
distribution
Two locations for ticket distributions were announced earlier today by the Obama Campaign: the first, the Obama for America Green Bay Office (319-541-9969) at 1148 East Main Street and open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 14) remains unchanged. The other, at UW-Green Bay, has been moved from the University Union to the lobby of the Kress Events Center because of construction and the potential for congestion near the Union.
Thursday's hours on campus: 9 a.m. to noon
With expected strong demand from UW-Green Bay students (both Residence Life and commuters), faculty, staff and potential off-campus visitors, tickets are expected to go fast. The hours for the Kress Center distribution of free tickets - limit four per person - will be 9 a.m. to noon Thursday (Feb. 14). Visitors are advised to enter from the main, or south, entrance. Volunteers from the College Dems will help staff the distribution tables.
Ticket distribution is Campaign responsibility
With phones ringing across campus today, and in the wake of Tuesday's mis-posting of incorrect information on a local website, the following is worth repeating: The University's Kress Events Center is the site for the event, but the ticket-distribution system is the responsibility of the Obama Campaign. Campaign staffers are working with the UW-Green Bay College Democrats organization, which is the student group hosting the visit, to organize Thursday's on-campus allotment of actual, pre-printed tickets.
Some take advantage of web option
We're told that some planning to attend Friday's rally have already visited the Obama Campaign website, submitted their 'RSVPs' and then received a response email that, when printed out, will function as an "e-ticket" to the rally. To clarify, campaign organizer Lindsay Scola says the "e-tickets" will carry the same admission privileges as the "actual" pre-printed tickets. Scola says the Campaign intends to make available ample supplies of tickets at both the Main Street and University distribution sites, but she said they will also monitor e-ticket traffic and could adjust accordingly. Note
Political campaigns rent campus facilities or collaborate with student organizations under the same cost-recovery policies that apply to any outside users, with charges fully covering incidental expenses. Public funds are not used for these expenses.
