Web site, photos are focal points for remembrances of Anne Kok
At this writing we have not yet been informed of funeral arrangements. However, friends, students and co-workers of UW-Green Bay Prof. Anne Kok, who passed away Monday (Feb. 4) as the result of a traffic accident, are posting remembrances by the dozen now that a site is online, at http://www.uwgb.edu/memorial/.
Also, from colleague submissions and the University archives, we have a few, mostly recent snapshots celebrating Prof. Kok's life at UW-Green Bay, at

Condolences from a former colleague in Jordan
"With great sadness I receive the news about the death of Anne Kok. I have closely known Anne while in Green Bay as Fulbrighter, she was one of the first people to approach me when sharing her experience in Jordan as she lived here for a short while. I also had the chance to meet with her last summer while she was paying Jordan a visit within the context of UWGB's Jordan programme. I feel so sad about her tragic death, and wish to share my condolences with all who have known, worked with or loved Anne."

International education played big role in Kok's life
Many are remembering Prof. Anne Kok's international interests. Newly graduated from Calvin (Mich.) College in 1969, Kok spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer, teaching school and building a school library in Kombolcha, Ethiopa. She followed that with a four-year stint in the nation of Jordan as coordinator of a self-help project under the auspices of the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee; she worked to help handicapped individuals in the Palestinian refugee camps and the northern provinces of Jordan pursue self-sufficiency. Most recently, with UW-Green Bay, she has been a participant in the federally funded "Journey to Jordan" project. (Several images on the photo page reflect that involvement.) She was recently granted approval by the UW System to dedicate a Fall 2008 sabbatical to promoting future educational and cultural exchanges between UW-Green Bay and the University of Jordan.
Door County Advocate features tributes to Kok; also, details of accident
Anne Kok's hometown newspaper has a lengthy accounting of her service to campus and community, including her years administrating a domestic-abuse intervention agency in Sturgeon Bay, along with detailed reporting of Monday's accident, in its online edition. Headlined "She touched many lives," it's at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080206/ADV01/80206109/2011/ADV.
Notes and letters to Mona Christensen
Friends in Outreach and Extension inform us that Mona Christensen, who suffered relatively minor injuries in Monday's tragic car accident, is now at home for several days of rest and recuperation; she would welcome e-mail notes at christem@uwgb.edu.

Door County accident claims life of Prof. Anne Kok
Relatives have confirmed that the woman killed in Monday's traffic accident on Highway 57 in southern Door County was Anne C. Kok, an associate professor and chair of UW-Green Bay's undergraduate program in Social Work. Additional details regarding services and arrangements will be shared later today as they become available. Kok, 60, was an award-winning scholar who joined the UW-Green Bay faculty in 1988. In the last year alone, her program had won the 2007 Founders Association Award for excellence in collaborative achievement, and she herself had recently won a fall-semester 2008 sabbatical leave from the UW System Board of Regents to promote new international educational opportunities for UW-Green Bay students in Jordan. Also injured in the four-vehicle crash was UW-Green Bay staff member Mona Christensen, who was in the same vehicle as Kok and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Chancellor Shepard: Kok 'touched the lives of many'
Chancellor Bruce Shepard issued the following statement today about the loss of Prof. Kok:
"The UW-Green Bay community is deeply saddened by the loss of Professor Anne Kok. Students, faculty and staff have lost an outstanding teacher and a valued friend and colleague. She brought strong leadership to the Social Work program and exemplified connecting learning to life through her teaching, her service to our region and state, and her connections with the global community. She touched the lives of many people on campus and in the community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends and students."
Update on Mona Christensen's condition
A colleague in UW-Green Bay's Office of Outreach and Extension reports that Mona Christensen wants friends on campus to know she is feeling better and, as of this morning, anticipated being released from a Green Bay hospital later today (Tuesday, Feb. 5). Christensen was injured in Monday's Highway 57 crash that killed Prof. Anne Kok. The two car-pooled together.
