Bookstore’s Rainy Day Sale: Everything (more or less) is half-off!
Today and today only (Friday, July 11), from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Phoenix Bookstore is declaring a 50%-Off Sale. That’s half-off the red-tag price. They’ve got a lot of nice clothing and other stuff that needs to move before the store itself moves (from its Library Plaza location over to the new Union). Check it out on the Library’s second floor, from 11 to 2.
Passing of Peter Cofrin
News has been received of the death of Peter Cofrin, 63. Public announcement of arrangements is pending. Peter Cofrin played a role in the development of the Cofrin Memorial Arboretum on campus, and continued to support UW-Green Bay through the years with his involvement and presence at special events.
Peter Cofrin was the youngest of six children of the late John and Barbara Hauxhurst Cofrin of Green Bay and the nephew of Dr. David and Mary Ann Cofrin. In the mid-1970s, the children established an endowment to develop trails and plantings and purchase additional property to create the Arboretum. Their $575,000 gift — at the time, the largest donation to a UW school outside of Madison — was a memorial to their father, John, who was president of Fort Howard Paper Co., and grandfather Austin Cofrin, the company founder. Peter and his siblings received the University’s highest community honor, the Chancellor’s Award, in 1989.
A search of UW-Green Bay’s Website turns up references including a photo from the spring 2007 Founders Association reception (the fourth one down at http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/photoarch/events/07foundersrecep1.htm) as well as a vintage Arboretum photo on a page honoring Peter’s older brother, Doug, who died in July 2000 (http://www.uwgb.edu/biodiversity/arboretum/architecture/tribute.htm).
July 22 program tackles response to workplace injuries
On Tuesday, July 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. in IS 1034, “Workplace Injuries” will be the workshop topic. “Unfortunately, injuries occur in the workplace and supervisors need to know how to respond appropriately. Jan Hess, Campus Worker Compensation Coordinator, and Jane Rank, Campus Safety and Risk Manager, will review what every supervisor needs to know when responding to a worker injury. They will include information on current Campus worker compensation injury statistics, a brief overview of the Campus pre-work screen program, forms that must be submitted when filing a claim, accident investigation benefits and methodology, and early return to work programs.”
Former Shorewood superintendent is and was golf ‘amigo’
Former Shorewood Golf Course Superintendent Ken Peterson was mentioned in a recent Green Bay Press-Gazette article about the retirement of Paul Delfosse, who retired as superintendent at Brown County Golf Course. Peterson, Delfosse and Tom Shaller, the retired superintendent at NorthBrook Country Club, called themselves “the three amigos,” as they took care of area golf courses for the better part of a quarter-century. Peterson gave 36 years of service to UW-Green Bay. More at: http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080709/GPG0203/807090670/1225/GPG02.
