Following his national-caliber rant, former UW-Green Bay staffer Kevin Borseth has now been compared to another feisty, determined-to-win newsmaker:
He's a fighter, with three decades of experience. He's a wonk who really knows the details of the game. The press is harder on him than on other coaches. And, like Hillary, he talks a lot about rebounding.
Thanks to Michigan blogger True Blue. And, as we count down the hours until SuperDuper Tuesday, that's how we feel. In news today:

Salad days: Garnished opens for lunch on Tuesday
Try a new premium salad for lunch at Garnished, located in the Leona Cloud Commons, opening Tuesday (March 4). Look for favorites such as Asian Salad, Caesar Salad, Cobb Salad, Chef's Spinach Salad, and the Phoenix Chop Salad, as well as freshly made in-house dressings! Garnished will be an option Monday through Friday during lunch hours. The Leona Cloud salad bar is still available and will be open for lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday, and lunch on Friday.
Weird snow art
Did you see the snow sheets sliding from MAC Hall's wintergarden roof Monday morning? Our photographer did. With so much snow this winter, so many different times, it's one we somehow hadn't seen yet: http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/page/photo.htm.
Columnist writes of Krak's visit to Green Bay
The Press-Gazette's Warren Gerds poses the question: What do the fashions of Yves Saint Laurent have to do with contemporary music composition? Visiting composer Egon Krak says high standards and elegant style — like haute couture — are his goals. He also credits colleague Sarah Meredith of UW-Green Bay for helping set in motion his trip from Bratislava. Read more at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080302/GPG07/803020673/1266/GPGent.
Review of 'Enemy'
Kudos for set and costume design, direction and for young actors who get into character for a century-old theatre masterpiece... those are elements of the Press-Gazette's review of "An Enemy of the People," which continues this week in the University Theatre. See http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080302/GPG0505/803020694/1267/GPGent
More detail on eight student researchers traveling to Madison
Eight students and five research projects have been selected to represent UW-Green Bay as more than 80 of the UW System's best and brightest undergraduates fill the Capitol Rotunda this Wednesday (March 5) at the fifth annual "Posters in the Rotunda." The following news release offers more detail on their projects: http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/archive/2008/08-53.htm.
UW System to look at tuition policies
The Board of Regents will meet this week and review several tuition models. Differential tuition is among the ideas to be discussed, along with strategies for increasing financial aid. A Madison student daily offers coverage at http://badgerherald.com/news/2008/03/03/uw_to_look_at_tuitio.php.
WARF's stem-cell patent upheld
The U.S. patent office has thrown out a challenge to a key patent held by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation regarding stem cell research. See http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=723234.
'Time to value well-rounded universities'
Just as LAS dean Scott Furlong did here, a faculty member at UW-Whitewater took advantage of Leap Day to publicize the value of LEAP, the UW System's initiative promoting liberal education. You can read his guest column at http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/column/other/274787.
Ec Center hosts program on 'Invisible Children' in Uganda
At 7 p.m. this Thursday (March 6), a coalition of UW-Green Bay people including Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, the Office of Student Life and Jay Harris, international project coordinator, will host a presentation at the Ecumenical Center. The topic is human suffering in northern Uganda and intervention by the humanitarian aid organization Invisible Children. Questions? Contact student at Liz Dahms at dahmel10@uwgb.edu.
Reminder: Frisbee® as a Way of Life
Former businessperson and flying-disc pro Alan R. Blake promises to address the topic this Tuesday (March 4) at 5:30 p.m. at the Ecumenical Center. Honest. See http://www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/logarchive/logarchive39/2008feb21.htm#frisbee.
Women's game was a classic
In 30 years at the old Phoenix Sports Center gym, the women's basketball program played some fantastic games. Only four months old, the new Kress Events Center was host to an instant classic last Saturday, with a back-and-forth, 66-65 win over UW-Milwaukee in front of a big crowd. See http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080302/GPG020101/803020740/1229/GPGsports.
Remembering longtime Phoenix basketball fan Howie Lehman
Maybe you hadn't seen him for a few years... he was in ill health... but for many years there was no bigger Phoenix basketball fan than Howard "Howie" Lehman. A founder of the program's booster club, he was a fan of both men's and women's hoops who also sometimes worked the scorer's table for home games. Lehman, 69, died last week in Green Bay. There's a full obituary at http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080228/GPG010301/802280707/1212/GPG010301.
ESPN columnist is generous in wake of Borseth rant
By now, many... most... heck, nearly every one in the entire ESPN-wired, Jim Rome-watching western world... has seen the online video of University of Michigan women's basketball coach Kevin Borseth going ballistic at his postgame news conference last Thursday. The popular former UW-Green Bay coach has since apologized to UofM for his outburst. And he's getting support from an ESPN columnist who recalls his Green Bay days and says the animated Borseth is a good man and a great coach. Read "Wild rant shouldn't define Michigan's Borseth" at http://sports.espn.go.com/ncw/columns/story?columnist=hays_graham&id=3272127.
Green Bay's Evans is defensive MVP
Steals and shot-blocking phenom Terry Evans of UW-Green Bay has been honored as the Horizon League defensive player of the year, it was announced Monday. The 6-5 junior from St. Louis holds the team record for blocked shots and is closing in on the steals record. Forward Mike Schactner is second-team all-Horizon, and freshman guard Rahmon Fletcher is on the all-newcomer team. See http://horizonleague.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/030308aae.html.
Tourney journey: Green Bay visits Valpo at 7 p.m. Tuesday
Green Bay (15-14) finished in a four-way tie for fourth place in the final Horizon League standings, but due to the tiebreaker, is the seventh seed in the post-season tournament. The Phoenix opening-round game is at Valparaiso Tuesday night (March 4) at 7 p.m. Central. See

Reminder: 'Human Race' looks at race in individual and social contexts
The Human Race Machine is the centerpiece of a program that offers participants a new way of looking at themselves and challenges them to examine their own constructs about race, as well as examine race in broader social and historical contexts. The event will take place on three separate days in Phoenix Room C of University Union — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 3 through Wednesday, March 5, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 6. The event is part of The Human Mosaic series of programming.
'Race Machine' offers a new view of the familiar face in the mirror
Visitors to the Human Race Machine will first see their own faces on a computer screen. Then they'll have the opportunity to map facial characteristics of six different races onto their own visage. The goal, according to event organizers, is for participants to get beyond biological constructs and see themselves as one human race, no matter what the superficial differences. Members of the Campus Life Diversity Task Force will be on hand to staff the machine and answer questions.
PBS documentary on race will be showing as well
"Race-the Power of an Illusion," a three-part documentary first shown on PBS in 2003, will be showing in the same room throughout the "Human Race" event. The series examines race from social, scientific and historical perspectives. It attempts to answer what race is, what notions people have about it, and what the consequences are.
Web survey: Finish by Tuesday
They've reminded you. We've reminded you. As part of the Web site redesign process the Redesign Working Group would like to get feedback from faculty and staff members on the current Web site. Before close of business on Tuesday (March 4), go to the survey at http://academictrial.qualtrics.com/SE?SID=SV_cUqoHPh6y0I3VPe&SVID=Prod,.
'LA Law' couple comes to campus
Heidi M. Sherman of Humanistic Studies, an assistant professor of history, presented the paper "The Use of Barbarian Barrows as Delineators of Sacred Space in Viking-Age Staraia Ladoga," at the Twelfth Annual Winter Workshop in Medieval and Early Modern Slavic Studies at UCLA. The Feb. 29 workshop was sponsored by the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and the Department of Slavic Languages.
