'Boys in Crisis' speaker draws full house
The Institute for Learning Partnership's eighth annual Fall Conference last week was a hit, with all three related events — the keynote address, the parent's workshop and the educator's workshop — filled to capacity. Keynote speaker Paul Slocumb, author of Hear Our Cry: Boys in Crisis, gave the keynote address Wednesday, Oct. 4, then worked with parents and educators at separate workshops on Thursday, Oct. 5.
Above and Below: More than 300 educators attended an all-day workshop with Paul Slocumb to discuss behavioral strategies that can engage boys, and prepare and motivate them to succeed academically and socially.
The Green Bay Boy Choir, led by director Judy Tepe, received a standing ovation for its performance prior to the Fall Conference keynote address.
More than 500 educators, parents, and local community members filled the Phoenix Room for the conference keynote address.
Joining Institute Director John Crubaugh (far right) for a dinner panel discussion (below) were Jerry Wieland, Director of Special Education, Green Bay public schools; Judy Sargent, Director of School Improvement Services, CESA 7; Barry Swanquist, vice-president, School Specialty, Inc.; Bill Hynes, President, St. Norbert College; Dr. Kristina Houn, pediatrician, Prevea; and conference keynote speaker Paul Slocumb.
More than 125 parents registered for the Parent Workshop at Neville Public Museum, Oct. 5. Slocumb discussed parenting strategies specific to gender differences.
