Chancellor
Bruce Shepard will scale any heights for a perfect
metaphor. That’s Shepard (blue shirt) at the
three-story climbing tower at the new Kress Events
Center. Little more than an hour before addressing
a community audience at a donor-appreciation dinner
last Thursday (Oct. 18), he removed his suit coat
to go climbing, as members of the Kress and Weidner
families and others looked on during the open-house
portion of the evening. In his speech later on, Shepard
compared his ascent on the tower to UW-Green Bay’s
rise as an institution. With the former, his student
partner kept watch on his progress and both her hands
on the belay rope. With the latter, especially in
regard to fundraising and friendraising, he has grown
to trust greatly in a community that “has our
back,” he said.
