Scholarship donors, recipients get together

This is just part of the crowd in Fort Howard Hall for last Tuesday's UW-Green Bay scholarship reception. The event brings together student recipients and some of the generous community donors who have funded scholarship endowments.

Chancellor Bruce Shepard praised both the University's extraordinary community support, and the quality of its students, in his opening remarks.

Donors and student recipients enjoy the reception. From left are Wendy Berth, Dr. Herbert and Crystal Sandmire, and Jennifer Tan. Students Berth and Tan are recipients of the Sandmires' medical-field scholarship.

Benefactors pictured here are, at far left, Ellen Weidner (the Gary R. Weidner Memorial Scholarship is a tribute to her late husband); and Jerry and Janet Gallagher (representing the Henrietta Gallagher Scholarship named for his late mother.)

Founding Chancellor Edward Weidner and his wife, Marge, front row, right, enjoy the company of student recipients of scholarships made possible by the Weidner Family Endowment.

Music student Betsy Daharsh of South Milwaukee, one of the recipients of a Weidner Family award, was chosen student speaker on behalf of the scholarship recipients. She expressed gratitude for the generosity of all donors.

Sharing a table and an enjoyable reception were students and representatives of the Byron L. Walter Family Scholarship and the Bradford L. Cook Memorial Scholarship.

Bruce and Cyndie Shepard went table-to-table at the reception, thanking donors and congratulating student recipients. Faculty and recipients in the theatre and literature areas were the audience in this photo.
