Photo: First convocation. “An institution is the lengthened shadow of one man”
                    — Ralph Waldo Emerson
Quoted from the citation, May 1989, as the UW-Green Bay community celebrated the UW System Board of Regents conferral of "chancellor emeritus" status. Colleagues and contemporaries agreed these words were never more fittingly applied than to Edward W. Weidner and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Weidner, UW-Green Bay founding chancellor and first employee, served as the University's chancellor from 1966 to 1986.
