Urban & Regional Studies

Urban Regional Studies Emphasis

Upper level courses required for the General Emphasis in Urban and Regional Studies include the following:

  • Urban Sociology
  • City and It's Regional Context
  • Community Politics
  • (Recommended:) Urban Politics and Policy or Settlement Geography
  • (Recommended:) Asian American Communities or Latino Communities
  • (3) Upper level elective in Urban and Regional Studies
  • Ethics and Public Action

In addition to these upper level courses, the following courses are recommended for students with the General Emphasis. Students following this course of study will complete all of their General Education requirements as well as all requirements for the major in Urban and Regional Studies. While it is recommended that the courses be taken in the sequence indicated below; please note that in some instances courses may be closed or, on rare occasions, not offered during the term shown. In these instances students should meet with their faculty advisor to discuss other options.

    • Foundations of Western Culture I
    • Introduction to Humanities I
    • Principles of Biology
    • Note: If you have required English/Math placement, substitute for one of above courses
  • Spring Semester:

    • Introduction to Urban Studies
    • American Government
    • Foundations of Western Culture II
    • Introduction to Humanities II
    • Introduction to Environmental Science
    • Note: If you have required English/Math placement, substitute for one of above course

Sophomore Year Courses

    • Macro Economics
    • Cultural Geography
    • History of Visual Arts: Ancient to Medieval
    • Minority Groups - Ethnic and Racial Identities
    • Social Science Statistics
  • Spring Semester:

    • Urban Social Problems
    • History of Visual Arts: Renaissance to Modern
    • Ethical Issues in the Humanities
    • World Food and Population Issues
    • Foundations for Social Research
