Creating Video for the Web Using iMovie and Flash
iMovie
- Create movie or import video click using iMovie
- With movie open in the timeline click FILE > SHARE within the menu bar
- Share window open click QUICKTIME. In the dropdown menu for Compress Movie for select EXPERT SETTINGS.
- Movie will compress and the Save exported file as window will open. Click on the OPTIONS button.
- Movie Settings will open. Set the following options as shown in this image:

- After set click OK.
- Name your mov file and click SAVE. Saving it into its own folder because the flash files will also be saved in this folder. Note: the name of the mov file and the folder will be used by flash, so make sure that it is name properly.
- Close iMovie
Flash 8 Video Encoder
- Click ADD MOVIE, select the mov file that you just created and saved in a folder.
- Click SETTINGS
- On the Flash Video Encoding Settings set the following options as shown in this image:

- Click OK > START QUEUE
- Once the encoding is finished there will be a .flv file in the folder along with the .mov file.
- Close Flash 8 Video Encoder
Flash
- Create a .fla file in the folder with the .flv and .mov file.
- On the menu bar click FILE > IMPORT > IMPORT VIDEO
- Pick the .flv file in the folder. Click continue
- Choose “Progressive download from a web server”
- Click OK
- Choose the “skin” and buttons you want for you video.
- Click Continue
- Click Finish
- Resize the stage to 320 x 285 pixels. Line the video player on the stage.
- Save the flash file
- With the file still open on the menu bar choose FILE > PUBLISH. This will create a .swf file as well.
- Move the folder with the .mov, .flv, .fla files into the web site that the video will be displayed on. (The .swf and flv files are the only ones needed for the web. The others will be needed if adjustments need to be made to the video or the flash file.)
- Using Dreamweaver open the web page that the file will be on. Drag .swf file to the page.
- Save the page.
- Test the video in a browser.
