John Prine Returns to the Weidner Center

Grammy award winning singer-songwriter and folk legend John Prine arrives with a battered acoustic guitar and opens up the windows on everyday life with passion and grace. The darkest corners and the smallest joys get illuminated by the light of his gravelly voice, simple language, and vintage guitar. His songs have found home with musical luminaries such as Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Cash, and George Strait. Among the numerous awards Prine has won throughout his extensive musical career, he was named the Artist of the Year at the 2005 Americana Music Awards, and most recently, he took home the Grammy Award in 2006 for Best Contemporary Folk Album for Fair & Square. Prine’s latest release, Standard Songs for Average People, contains duet renditions of classic American songs with Bluegrass icon Mac “The Voice with a Heart” Wiseman.
