There will be a variety of sessions related to working successfully with linguistically diverse populations in Wisconsin, with a particular interest on weaving the arts into one's work with language and culture. Through – April 14, 2002, Milwaukee Gustave Le Gray in Context - examines the work of nineteenth-century Parisian photographer Gustave Le Gray and its impact on creative landscape imagery over time. On April 27, The Southeast Wisconsin Academic Alliance for French will have a very special program that will be us great interest to teachers at all levels. We are welcoming back Michèle RAKOTOSON, one of the most important writers from Madagascar, a prize-winning author of novels, plays and short who writes in French and Malgache. Living in France since 1983, she is a journalist for Radio France Internationale and regularly reports on African literatures and cultures. Michèle Rakotoson will speak about her work as a writer and conduct a writing workshop - atelier d'écriture - for SWAAF members. The workshop will develop our own creative talents and help us design creative writing activities in French for our students. One of Michèle novels, Elle, au printemps, evoking the experience of exile, is available at the UWM bookstore. You can find it under course books for French 327. We will apply for Equivalency Clock Hours for participation in this workshop.

French Summer Camps at the French House, Madison, Wisconsin (esp. teens!)

French Summer Camps at the French House, Madison French camps for teenagers (12-14 year olds) will get you the closest feeling you will get to going to France (or Quebec) without leaving Madison. Half days (including 3-4 course lunch) or full days (with afternoon "immersion excursions" around Madison) are a great way to extend your linguistic and cultural experience and have fun at the same time. There's even an overnight/sleepover option this year (one night of the week) for the first time this year. Maybe we'll have our own "Fete du Cinema"!
