- LaSalle Shipwreck ProjectWeekly review of the progress of the archaeology of the "Belle", Sieur de La Salle's colony support ship (c. 1686). Good info on French in America and the establishment of a French trading colony. Good Wisconsin link as La Salle explored and exploited the west shore of Lake Michigan between 1671-1681. the first ship on Lac des Illinois (Lake Michigan) was La Salle's "Griffon." The "Belle"was probably comparable to the "Griffon."
