Student Satellite Program
High-Altitude Balloon Payload Internships
A student-driven program that launches and retrieves payloads from a high-altitude balloon that will ascend up to 100,000 feet - altitudes used by NASA as Mars analogues and considered to be the "edge of space." Selected students will join either a launch team or a payload design team. The launch team is trained to carry out the launch, tracking and retrieval of the balloon and payload. The design team designs and builds science experiments to fly in this environment, assists in the launch of the satellite, tracks and chases the balloon as it traverses, retrieves it upon landing, and analyzes the resulting data.
