Course Description

In this training, we will explore ways that DBT can be tailored or contextualized in order to meet the needs of our LGBTQ+ clients. We will discuss minority stress theory and how it aligns with DBT's biosocial theory.
Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn ways to maintain treatment fidelity while meeting the needs of LGBTQ+ clients
  • Participants will understand how minority stress theory fits with biosocial theory in DBT
  • Participants will describe how minority stress may relate to emotion dysregulation and related difficulties
  • Participants will apply existing DBT skills to the needs of LGBTQ+ clients

Kim Skerven, Ph.D., ABPP

Kim Skerven, Ph.D., ABPP is a Licensed Psychologist specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She is a Certified Clinician through the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification. Dr. Skerven provides individual DBT, conducts DBT skills training groups, and provides DBT supervision.
