White trout lily does best in moist deciduous woods. In some locations there may be many leaves and few or no flowers, but in others they may flower profusely. In spite of a strong desire on the part of many people it is not possible to reliably distinguish our two species by the leaves alone, since the pattern and shade of the colors is quite variable. This is another species that may be very conspicuous in spring and virtually undetectable by mid-summer, after flowers and leaves have wilted and dried up.
