Key to the Trees of Wisconsin
58. Some leaves may
not be lobed (leaves of younger plants are generally more
conspicuously lobed than those of mature trees); leaves often
appearing to have three major veins arising at the base of
the blade; buds not clustered at the tips of twigs; sap milky
(mulberries).
58. All leaves lobed, though
they are frequently more deeply lobed in the sun than they
are in the shade; leaves with only one main vein from the
base; buds clustered at the tip of the twigs; sap clear (blunt-lobed
oaks).
