To Be Formally Accepted Into The Program

Note: All Majors and Minors are required to complete this process.

Comm 1

  • Review the faculty expectations and make sure choosing Communication is for you.
  • Decide on an appropriate area of emphasis, or see an advisor or the department chair if you are still undecided about an area of emphasis. (Conflict Resolution, Journalism, Mass Media, Organizational Communication, or Public Relations) Note: This step will not apply to minors.
  • Prepare a current resume, to be uploaded during the online admission application..
  • Prepare a copy of your unofficial transcripts, to be uploaded during the online admission application.
  • Prepare a one-paragraph answer to the following question: What are your reasons for selecting this area of emphasis (Conflict Resolution, Journalism, Mass Media, Organizational Communication, Public Relations) or a Communication minor?
  • Prepare a brief analysis of your personal communication and intellectual skills (Basic Skills/Competencies). Describe three personal strengths and three personal areas of improvement. The Basic Skills/ Competencies list should be helpful. Also include a "bullet point" about how you plan to monitor your progress.
  • When you have prepared the above items, complete the online Communication - Admission Form
  • After you have submitted your application, your advisor will be in touch.
