Notetaking Assistance

Disability Services (DS) Office has paid notetakers to provide class notes for students who, because of their disability, are unable to take class notes themselves. Announcements are made for the paid note taker position. The DS Office hires and monitors the notetakers. Notetakers are required to provide notes twice per week, which are uploaded to ACCESS. The student requiring the notes will be given unlimited access to their notes.

  1. Each semester students are responsible for logging into ACCESS and requesting the accommodation.
  2. Only one set of class notes per class for each student with a disability will be provided.

  1. Student needs to be registered with the Disability Services Office, and request the accommodation through ACCESS.
  2. Once accommodations are verified, the course instructor will be alerted.
  3. The course instructor announces the notetaking position in the class or via email.
  4. DS wil hire the notetaker, and the note taker uploads notes to ACCESS at least twice a week.
  5. Student will download the notes from their ACCESS account.
  6. It is the student's responsibility to let the DS staff know if the notes are not provided on a weekly basis. The DS office will replace the note taker if notes are not delivered in a timely manner.
  7. Students are encouraged to use tape recorders and/or smart pens whenever possible to supplement the class notes.
  8. Please let the office know as soon as possible if you drop a class or do not need notes for a particular class.

Note: Faculty can provide a copy of their notes in lieu of hiring a notetaker.
