0095D/DU - First Nations Studies for Classroom Teachers and Education Professionals

Registration for this Event is Closed

Course Description:

First Nations Studies for Classroom Teachers and Education Professionals is designed to increase students' understanding of issues related to the history, culture, and tribal sovereignty of the federally recognized tribes and bands in Wisconsin.

Our goals relate to both First Nations Studies and the education of American Indian students. By providing a high-quality professional development opportunity that focuses on experiential learning and accurate, authentic information, we aim to improve teaching and learning to enrich student services so that they may become more culturally-appropriate.

Classroom sessions will provide opportunities for students and the instructor to share information, resources, best practices, and model programs. Discussions are rich and allow everyone to share their insights and reactions. Students will work in small groups and individually to develop a lesson and/or project that allow them to pass on what they have learned.

~Offered in partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools First Nations Studies Program, and UW-Green Bay's First Nations Studies Program and Education Center for First Nations Studies
