Donald and Betty Brown Endowed Scholarship

Discipline: General

Student: New and Continuing

Betty Brown helped UW-Green Bay grow from the ground up. She was the initial head of UW-Green Bay news services, joining the academic staff in 1968 and serving for many years as Director of News Services and Publications. She retired from the University in 1990. As the cap to a long career as a writer and editor, Betty researched and wrote a history of the first 25 years of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She drew on original documents of the University, as well as personal observations gained as a member of the campus community. Betty grew up in Milwaukee and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Milwaukee-Downer College. A musician by avocation, Betty has taught and performed with symphony, chamber and show orchestras and church choirs. Her late husband, Rev. Donald E. Brown, was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and Colgate-Rochester Divinity School. He served pastorates in New York and Colorado before moving with Betty and their five children to Green Bay in 1960.
