Professional Bio
Dr. Gaurav Bansal is Frederick E. Baer Professor in Business and Full Professor of MIS / Statistics at the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business at UW-Green Bay. He is also a distinguished member (cum laude) of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), a premier global body of IT academicians and practitioners. He is the Past-President of the Midwest Association for Information Systems (MWAIS) and served as the Founding Chair and Academic Director of the Master of Science in Data Science program at UW-Green Bay. The program received the prestigious University Professional and Continuing Education Association - UPCEA (Most Innovative Program) award in 2018.
He earned his Ph.D. from UW-Milwaukee in 2008 and MBA from Kent State University, Ohio, in 2002. He received his bachelor's in mechanical engineering from MMM University of Technology, Gorakhpur, India, in 1996.
He currently serves as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Information Technology Case and Application Research. He is also on the editorial review board for several journals such as AIS Transactions for Human-Computer Interaction (AIS THCI), Journal of Computer Information Systems (JCIS), Journal of Global IT Management (JGITM), and Journal of Midwest AIS. Dr. Bansal has published in premier MIS journals such as Journal of Management Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Information & Management, The DATABASE for Advancement in Information Systems, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, Journal of IT & People, and Journal of Computer Information Systems, among others. His research has won several accolades at national and international levels. His papers were nominated for the best paper award at Americas Conference for Information Systems (AMCIS) 2010, Peru and International Conference for Information Systems (ICIS) 2008, Paris, and received best paper awards at Midwest Association for Information Systems (MWAIS) conferences in 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, and 2023.
Dr. Bansal has been awarded twice with the prestigious UW-Green Bay Founders Award, first for collaborative achievement in 2018 for advancing the message of Dr. Martin Luther King in the Greater Green Bay community and second for Excellence in Scholarship for the year 2020. He was recognized as Wisconsin Teaching Fellow for the year 2011-2012. Before starting his academic career, he worked as Quality Assurance Engineer for General Motors India (1998-2000) and Daewoo Motors India (1996-1998).
