GEAR UP College Credit Options – Summer

Do something for your future and distinguish yourself on your college application by taking an online college course this summer:
- Save hundreds of dollars on tuition and textbooks
- Get a head start on college
- Transfer credits to all UW schools and most private or out-of-state schools
The GEAR UP program gives high school students the opportunity to take an online college course while saving money on tuition. All course costs will be covered by GEAR UP funds and textbooks will be shipped directly to students' homes.

THEATRE 211: World Theatre and Performance | An introduction to the performing arts through multiple global perspectives. WOST 203: Gender in Popular Culture | In this course, we will examine the ways that women and gender have been portrayed and are currently portrayed through the media, television and movies, popular music, internet, periodicals, popular fiction, newspapers, and other cultural artifacts. With readings ranging from critical theory to popular fiction, we will speculate on the impact of and sources for popular portrayals of women, in particular, and the social construction of gender, race, sexuality, and other social categories. The course will also encourage students to question agency in the creation and consumption of mass culture. Issues of race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, and physical ability will be important as we explore and critically examine the forms and functions of popular culture. | Humanities | 3 | 6 Week (6/17/24 to 7/28/24) |
* UWGB breaks may not align with high school breaks; students will be expected to complete assignments and coursework following the UWGB calendar, even if their high school is on break.
**After you complete your course orientation session, you will earn a DIGITAL BADGE! You'll earn a second digital badge for completing the course reflection at the end of the course as well!

Step 2: Email Your Unofficial Transcript
Email your unofficial transcript to Ben Berndt at gearup@uwgb.edu. You may do so yourself OR request that your DPI Education Specialist or school counselor email it.
Deadline to express interest and submit all documents is Friday, May 3, 2024 at 5:00pm.
Admission Requirements
Students must be:
- Enrolled in the GEAR UP Program; AND
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher*; AND
- Entering grade 10, 11, or 12; AND
- Serious about the commitment required to take a college course.
* Students who do not meet the above criteria may be considered on an exceptional basis if they are able to provide substantial or convincing letters of recommendation and/or data demonstrating high ability in a specific area within their preferred area of study.
