Government Affairs will be offering a Digital Badge for completing the approved classes at the Master Academy for Civic & Public Affairs. A digital badge is a micro-credential that validates an accomplishment, skill set or competency a learner has earned. Digital Badges can be placed on a resume or digital platform, such as LinkedIn, to show employers you have the critical skill set and job-ready competencies that allow you to be a confident and engaging employee.

Strategic Thinking and Planning
To assist public sector leaders, managers, and frontline employees in understanding the importance of following a thoughtful process, and how to initiate a strategic planning process in their municipality. Participants left this session with a clear plan for developing a strategic plan for their organization.

Learning Objectives
As a result of participating in this program, individuals are able to:
  1. Describe the strategic planning process and its essential components.
  2. Describe the role that strategic planning plays in enabling long-term organizational success.
  3. Discuss the importance of strategic thinking and its relationship to strategic planning and organizational success. 
  4. Explore the four phases of the strategic planning process.
  5. Identify common obstacles to effectively operationalize a strategic plan.

    Budgeting in Hard Times: SMART ways to look for cuts
Budgeting is never an easy task. In hard times it is a greater challenge. Most municipal budgets are already bare bones. Participants learned how to put together a budget and where to look for places to adjust, save money, and some creative revenue generators.

    Ethical Conduct in Public Office
A key responsibility in leadership on all levels is to promote an ethical culture. Government officials are called to uphold a high standard of ethical behavior. They must carry the torch and never exploit their obligation to serve.
