What Is HIMT?

HIMT professionals are experts in managing patient health information, administering computer information systems, and coding diagnoses and procedures for services provided to patients. They maintain, collect and analyze the data that doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers rely on to deliver quality healthcare. As the field transitions from paper to electronic health records, the traditional HIM skills of coding, data entry, and recordkeeping are no longer enough. The future belongs to HIM professionals who are fluent in technology and who understand how to get the most from the data.
