Dr. Bartell conducts research on mate selection and the development of romantic relationships and offers students opportunities for involvement in this research, as well as in teaching assistantships and independent study.

Dr. Bartell is currently serving as Director of Student Success and Engagement and Director of the GPS Program.

GPS Program

Dr. Denise Bartell is the Director of Student Success & Engagement, and the founder and Program Director of the GPS Program. In addition to the First Year Seminar on Love & Lust in America, Dr. Bartell teaches courses on emerging adulthood, family and personal relationships and research methods. Her areas of research involve emerging adult development, including factors that promote college success and the impact of romantic relationships on young adult development. In addition to her work developing programs to assist students in the transition to college, Dr. Bartell is also active in the field of relationship education, having worked on multiple projects to reduce risky romantic and sexual behavior in college students.
