Field of Interest: Dr. White has conducted ethnographic research in rural Appalachia, among the urban poor in the South, and in rural and urban Northern Mexico. Her work has focused on themes of education, identity, and the social construction of childhood and youth. She is currently exploring these issues in Amman, Jordan. Dr. White leads a travel course to Jordan in which students may earn Human Development or Global Studies credit. Author of Figured Worlds of Mexican Teens in Kentucky: Identity and Educational Decision-Making (2009). Dr. White offers students opportunities to be involved with various cultural communities in Wisconsin and to assist her with qualitative fieldwork.
