Essential Job Functions

The Art & Design program at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay seeks qualified applicants for a tenure-track faculty member to teach undergraduate courses in animation and graphic design. The successful applicant will develop and teach animation studio courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels using industry standard tools and software, as well as teach other classes in graphic design that support the major. The preferred candidate will have experience in traditional design principles, typography, animation, and interactive/web design. Preference will be given to candidates with curriculum development, prior higher education teaching experience, and those that provide evidence of interdisciplinary project collaboration. Experience with professional animation and design, game design, UI/UX design for web and mobile, and digital publishing/publication design is highly preferred.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach animation studio courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels using industry standard tools and software, as well as teach other classes in graphic design that support the major, such as in graphic and animation design and one or more of the following: motion graphics, web design, interaction design, and design for print medium, including traditional and computer-mediated technologies.
  • Maintain studio, computer lab, and inventory.
  • Participate in program/course development and assessment.
  • Advise students.
  • Perform scholarly activities consistent with rank.
  • Perform institutional and community service.


In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship and a commitment to undergraduate education. The candidate should also possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master of Fine Arts in animation/graphic design, or closely related field, from an accredited institution at time of application
  • 36 months of digital animation/motion graphics experience
  • 36 months of experience using industry standard design and animation tools and software
  • 36 months of typography, layout design, and conceptual problem-solving experience

Conditions of Appointment

Position is an academic year, tenure-track appointment.  Applicants must be considered for tenure and promotion in six years, although tenure decisions may be at any time.  Promotion from Assistant to Associate Professor is simultaneous with tenure.  Excellence in teaching, sustained scholarly activity and institutional service required for retention and promotion.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s).  A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).  In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the university does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.
