Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Custodial Services Program Supervisor and is responsible for maintaining the overall appearance of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts (WCPA).

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Clean offices, performance spaces, dance rooms, restrooms, and other building areas.
  • Maintain all floor surfaces, including mopping, buffing, vacuuming, shampooing, and refinishing.
  • Clean windows (inside and outside).
  • Clean furniture.
  • Assist with furniture, piano, and equipment moves.
  • Stock restrooms and custodial work areas with necessary supplies and products.
  • Remove waste and recycling.
  • Perform snow removal and salting of building entrances.
  • This position will be required to drive a state vehicle and travel between work locations.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment
  • Physical abilities to lift 50 lbs. from the floor to waist occasionally
  • Physical abilities to lift 30 lbs. from the floor to overhead occasionally
  • Physical abilities to stand and walk continuously throughout an eight hour shift

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Knowledge of the proper methods, materials, and equipment for a wide range of general custodial work
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment, such as a vacuum cleaner or a floor scrubber
  • Knowledge of basic safety precautions, including the safe and proper use of toxic chemicals, and knowledge of heaving lifting methods to ensure safety
  • Must have the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions, including internet browsing and email
  • Ability to tolerate temperature extremes when performing snow removal activities
  • Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, move furniture, perform repetitive motions, overhead work, frequent stair, and ladder climbing

The successful candidate will have exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, computer, proofreading, and customer service skills; the ability to communicate with diverse constituents; and the willingness to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects, and priorities with attention to detail and exceptional accuracy; show excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential information; and demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to ongoing change. Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness, are essential for this position.

Conditions of Appointment

Position is a part-time, (60%) University Staff appointment. The work hours for this position will be on a rotating schedule, depending upon the needs of the WCPA. Majority of the work will be done on 2nd shift (3:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.), however occasional work on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.), 3rd shift (11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.) and several weekends. Shift hours may vary based on event needs. A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s). A six-month probationary period is required for this position. In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the University does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record. Salary

Minimum hourly salary of $15.00. This position will earn an additional $0.60 per hour for all weekend hours worked and an additional $0.45 per hour for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
