Position Information

Title:  Facilities Repair Worker - Advanced

Essential Job Functions

Under the general supervision of the Director for Facilities Planning & Management and daily direction by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, this position performs general maintenance and repair to facilities, grounds, and equipment for UW Green Bay, Sheboygan Campus.  This position will be the second responder to after-hours emergency calls regarding fire alarms, lockouts, plumbing emergencies, and power outages.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Repair door components such as panic hardware, closers, hinges, locksets, and weather stripping.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain campus grounds equipment including tractors, mowers, forklifts, snow removal equipment, etc.
  • Secondarily to the Facilities Maintenance Specialist, perform preventative maintenance such as changing filters, lubricate bearings, and replace belts and sheaves.
  • Perform carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical, and plumbing tasks below the Journeyman level.
  • Maintain, adjust, and replace electrical devices such as motors, switches, outlets, etc. and plumbing devices such as gaskets, valves, aerators, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles, snow and lawn equipment, air compressors, generators, etc.
  • Clear roofs and chiller condenser coils of debris.
  • Assist Facilities Maintenance Specialist in performing repairs or replacement of HVAC components.
  • Clean kitchen refrigeration equipment.
  • Clean reflectors, change bulbs and ballasts for light fixtures.
  • Requisition supplies through the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor.
  • Occasionally perform custodial work or room set-ups.
  • Perform grounds keeping tasks including planting, mowing, weeding, watering, tree and shrub trimming, and snow removal.
  • Operate campus grounds equipment including tractors, mowers, forklifts, snow removal equipment, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, perform work on the fire alarm system, energy management system, and electronic access system.
  • Act as second responder to after-hours emergency calls regarding fire alarms, lockouts, plumbing emergencies, power outages, or other issues requiring response to campus.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma at time of application
  • 1 year of related experience
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 years of maintenance and repair experience with building systems
  • Working knowledge of commercial maintenance equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform required work, including being able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, lift up to 50 lbs, and work on feet for long periods of time

The successful candidate will have exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, computer, proofreading, and customer service skills; the ability to communicate with diverse constituents; and the willingness to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects, and priorities with attention to detail and exceptional accuracy; show excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential information; and demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to ongoing change. Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness, are essential for this position.

Conditions of Appointment

Position is a full-time University Staff appointment.  The primary work hours for this position will be 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday but will require early mornings or late evenings for seasonal work or specialty events. 

A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s).  A six-month probationary period is required for this position. Salary

Hourly salary of $17.00.

This position will earn an additional $0.60 per hour for all weekend hours worked and an additional $0.45 per hour for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
