Position Information

Working Title:  Food Service Lead
UW System Title: Food Retail/Catering Lead 1

Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Campus Executive Officer at the Sheboygan campus and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the retail food service unit, coffee specialty service, and on-campus catering activities for the Sheboygan campus.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Select, train, lead and monitor part-time student and other food service assistants in the preparation and service of food items
  • Order food items and supplies from multiple sources including contract vendors
  • Monitor inventory, keep unit records on unit sales, product usage and waste
  • Compile data for budget development and monitor unit performance against budgeted profit margins
  • Prepare food items, pre-dish, package and display food and beverages
  • Respond to customer concerns
  • Initiate menu upgrades and develop new menu items
  • Promote/market menu offerings at the cafe
  • Oversee on campus and student organization catering; coordinate event staffing, food preparation, setup and takedown
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and equipment sanitation standards and respond to sanitation report


  • 1-3 years of experience in retail food setting
  • Ability to get Safe SERV certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field
  • Experience managing a food services operation
  • Experience working in a food services operation in a higher education setting
  • Safe SERV certified (Food Safety)
  • Strong organizational skills in fast paced setting
  • Catering experience

The successful candidate will have exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, computer, proofreading, and customer service skills; the ability to communicate with diverse constituents; and the willingness to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects, and priorities with attention to detail and exceptional accuracy; show excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential information; and demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to ongoing change. Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness, are essential for this position.

Conditions Of Appointment

Position is a temporary University Staff appointment.  The work hours for this position will be 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
