Essential Job Functions

The 10% Head Cheer Coach position reports to the Director of Athletics Communications and is responsible for supervising, training, and instructing the cheer team. This will include proper training and performance at all practices and required athletic events. This position is also responsible for development and utilization of the team budget; recruiting cheer team members who meet admissions requirements; managing all cheer squad appearance requests both on-campus and within the community; and maintaining proper safety certification.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Train, supervise, and instruct cheerleaders during practices and meets.
  • Hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage students to participate.
  • Assess skills and assign team positions.
  • Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Work with Kress Center staff in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Coach and instruct cheerleaders regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an injury.
  • Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
  • Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  • Coordinate cheer performances at all home Packer games.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 year experience as a cheerleading (or related field) instructor


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Coaching experience at the college level
  • Head coach experience

Conditions of Appointment

This position will require evening and weekend work.

Position is a part-time, 10% Limited appointment.  Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s).  A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s).  In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the university does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.

Salary

Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
