Position Information

Working Title:  HVAC Technician
UW System Title:  HVAC/Refrigeration Specialist - Advanced

Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Building and Grounds Supervisor on the Sheboygan Campus and is responsible for the performance of HVAC preventative maintenance and repair work. This includes inspecting, maintaining, repairing, maintain the campus energy power generators, and performing preventative maintenance. There will also be infrequent work performing grounds items or assisting others.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance per manufacturer’s recommendations and facilities TMA maintenance checklist for HVAC equipment.
  • Insure proper operation of all cabinet heaters, exhaust fans and related controls.
  • Inspect, clean, change filters, and change belts for HVAC equipment.
  • Calibrate and check thermostats and controls for HVAC equipment.
  • Assist with maintenance and repairs of all mechanical components and controls for HVAC.
  • Replace/repair bearings, shafts, motors, fans and pumps.
  • Perform electrical test such as voltage readings and amp draws of all HVAC equipment.
  • Complete minor repairs to the emergency power generators.
  • Assist maintenance staff in general repair of plumbing, doors and general maintenance throughout campus.
  • Perform routine preventable maintenance on campus plumbing, doors, wall repair, and general maintenance throughout campus.
  • Mow lawns, remove snow and ice, or assist with general cleanup of the campus.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Mechanical aptitude in commercial heating and cooling
  • 2 years experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associates degree in a mechanical trade
  • 3 years working in the trades
  • Proficient with computer systems

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform required work, including being able to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, lift up to 50 lbs, and work on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to climb and work at considerable heights and in confined spaces under adverse conditions

The successful candidate will have exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, computer, proofreading, and customer service skills; the ability to communicate with diverse constituents; and the willingness to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects, and priorities with attention to detail and exceptional accuracy; show excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential information; and demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to ongoing change. Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness, are essential for this position.

Conditions Of Appointment

Position is a full-time University Staff appointment.  The work hours for this position will be 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s).  A six-month probationary period is required for this position. Salary

Hourly salary range of $19.30 - $21.20.

This position will earn an additional $0.60 per hour for all weekend hours worked and an additional $0.45 per hour for all hours worked between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
