Working Title:  Technology Support Specialist
UW System Title:  Elect Tech Media - Intermediate

Essential Job Functions

This position reports to the Campus Executive Officer at the Sheboygan campus and is responsible for providing operational and technical support for classroom technology, videoconferencing, and distance education systems. This position will assist the faculty and staff by answering questions and providing training for all classroom technology and media equipment. In addition, this position will also serve as the help desk technician “in the field” by helping solve client problems, conducting on-site training as needed, and working with the Help Desk at the main branch to resolve workstation and other technology related issues as needed.

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Provide faculty, staff, and students with training and documentation on the use of instructional technology.
  • Setup and operate audio/video equipment in campus technology classrooms and special campus events.
  • Perform or arrange for repair of equipment in technology classrooms, portable systems, and assist in the coordination of a preventative maintenance program for all campus instructional technology equipment and systems.
  • Assist with the planning, design, installation, and support of new or replacement instructional technology and systems.
  • Provide faculty, staff and student workers with training and technical support in the use of campus videoconferencing, web conferencing and distance education facilities.
  • Communicate and disseminate official information regarding distance education, including weather cancellations, room changes, and scheduling.
  • Setup rooms and coordinate coverage of distance education facilities for the delivery of and receiving of distance education courses.
  • Perform equipment and firmware upgrades as needed to meet current technical needs and designing classrooms and facilities upgrades and maintenance.
  • Serve as the “technician in the field” for the UW-Green Bay Help Desk.
  • Monitor and responds to all service requests and ensure their timely resolution.
  • Provide direct assistance to users in the field.
  • Participate in building and maintaining the UW – Green Bay Knowledgebase documents.
  • Assist with computer inventory and upgrades.
  • Participate in team meetings for distance education, academic technology, and the Information Technology Division.



  • Associate's degree at time of hire
  • 1 year of experience
  • Working knowledge of instructional media technologies and equipment
  • Experience and familiarity with the use of control systems such as Extron and AMX
  • Experience with the operation and set up of distance education, video conference and web conference equipment and systems
  • Working knowledge and experience with computers and computer projection equipment


  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Experience in a higher education environment

  • Physical strength and stamina to perform required work, including being able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, crawl, kneel, climb, lift up to 75 lbs, and move with a full range of motion for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work on ladders and personnel lifts at various heights

The successful candidate will have exceptional oral, written, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, computer, proofreading, and customer service skills; the ability to communicate with diverse constituents; and the willingness to work independently, as well as part of a collaborative team. This position requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines, projects, and priorities with attention to detail and and ability to troubleshoot equipment problems; show excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential information; and demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to ongoing change. Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness, are essential for this position.

Conditions of Appointment

Position is a full-time University Staff appointment.  The work hours for this position will be 7:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s).  A six-month probationary period is required for this position. Hourly salary of $22.00.

This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
