What will an upcoming award ceremony, research symposium and a hybrid online/in-class presentation all have in common? You- as an Audio-Visual (AV) Technician.

Our information-intensive world grows more complex at a greater pace while demanding even greater attention to an increasingly distracted audience. Visual presentations, from videos to interactive presentations, are more vital than ever in connecting content to audience and you're the vital link in that connection.

You'll report to the IT Manager with a primary mission to design, install, implement and ensure the security for large, highly complex, and non-routine audio-visual hardware, software, and associated systems.

Preparation and presentation areas can range from classrooms, large-scale venues or major events. Your talents will be essential to ensure that the proper AV equipment functions according to client requests and business needs.

What You'll Do

This position includes the following responsibilities:
  • Sets up, installs, upgrades, configures, troubleshoots, adjusts, and connects complex audio, visual, lighting, computer equipment, and peripherals in various environments for events, academic instruction, or meetings according to established requirements and requests.
  • Assists with the development and scheduling of operational work plans for performance checks and lights adjustments.
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for new installations of audio-visual equipment.
  • Tests, maintains, and provides recommendations for alternative hardware and software options to ensure proper functionality, security requirements, and business needs are met.
  • Provides consultation and answers questions regarding AV equipment and functionality to individuals and groups based on set material and standards.



  • Associate's degree at time of application or relevant experience 
  • Working knowledge of instructional media technologies and equipment
  • Experience and familiarity with the use of control systems such as Extron and AMX
  • Experience with the operation and setup of distance education, video conference and web conference equipment and systems


  • Bachelor's degree 
  • ITIL certified or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire 


  • Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, reach, crawl, kneel, and move with full range of motion
  • Ability to work on ladders and person lifts at various heights
  • Able to work within confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds

Conditions of Appointment

Position is a full-time University Staff appointment.  The work hours for this position will be 7:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s).  A six-month probationary period is required for this position. Compensation and Benefits

Minimum hourly wage of $23.00. 

This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Benefit Details

The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
