Essential Job Functions

This position reports to Executive Director of University Wellness and Student Counseling Services and provides professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus community, incorporates a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional and behavioral needs of students, creates developmental programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping behaviors across campus, and provides strategic direction and advocacy for university mental health policy and initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Provides clinical case management services to students.
  • Provides triage assessment for students with urgent mental health needs.
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students struggling with developmental and/or personal mental health issues and refers students to appropriate community resources.
  • Provides information to faculty and staff.
  • Facilitates psycho-educational and process-oriented groups.
  • Prepares presentations and outreach activities and facilitates student adjustment and success programs to promote a healthy campus.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related field, PhD, or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology or related field at time of application
  • A current Wisconsin license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist) or ability to be fully licensed in the state of WI within 2 years of hire
  • One year of related behavioral health experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage, as applicable, in prevention/education, assessment, DSM-V diagnosis, treatment planning, and counseling intervention activities. Skilled in individual and group counseling techniques, evaluation of counseling effectiveness, and in group presentations
  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, database) and the Internet

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A current Wisconsin license (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist)
  • Experience working with young adults or in a University setting
  • Two years of related behavioral health experience
  • Experience in working with issues related to: sexual assault, relationship violence, suicide prevention, LGBTQ, multicultural counseling, alcohol and drug abuse and academic success

Conditions of Appointment

Some travel is required for necessary work at other campus locations, meetings, workshops, conferences, etc.  Occasional evening and and/or weekend work is expected and will be assigned by supervisor as needed.

Position is an overall 75%, Academic Staff appointment, with expectation to work full-time during the academic year and a seasonal break during the summer. Position will be fully in-person, on campus. Official transcripts of the highest degree achieved will be required of finalist(s). A criminal conviction investigation will be conducted on the finalist(s). Compensation and Benefits

SALARY INFORMATION

Actual salary range based upon a 75% appointment is $38,625 - $46,021 (full-time equivalent annual salary of $51,500 - $61,361).

This position may be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). 

BENEFIT DETAILS

The UW System provides an excellent benefits package to meet the diverse needs of its employees. This includes several health insurance options, with annual deductibles as low as $250/individual and $500/family. Our benefits package also includes dental, vision, several life insurance options, AD&D and Accident insurance and Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts. We participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where employer contributions begin immediately and employees are fully vested after 5 years of service. The UW System also provides supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation.

In addition, employees receive several types of paid leave benefits, which are prorated for employees working less than 100%. This includes 9 legal holidays, 36 hours of personal holiday and between 96-130 hours of sick leave annually. Employees earn 13-27 days of vacation each year, depending on years of service and employment type.
