Biography
Dr. Mohammad Upal Mahfuz is currently a tenure-track assistant professor of Electrical Engineering Technology in the Natural and Applied Sciences department at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Dr. Mahfuz previously worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ottawa, Canada, for eight months. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Canada, in December 2014 under the supervision of Professors Hussein T. Mouftah and Dimitrios Makrakis. Prior to that, he completed his M.Sc. degree in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary, Canada, in September 2008, M.Engg. degree in Telecommunications from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, in May 2005, and B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh, in April 2002. His research interests include nanoscale communication systems and nanonetworks, ultra-wideband wireless communication systems, and renewable energy and information and communication technology (ICT) for sustainable development.
Dr. Mahfuz has received several awards and scholarships including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) doctoral scholarship (PGS-D, 2010-2013), the University of Ottawa Excellence Award (2010–2013), the University of Ottawa Admissions Scholarship (2009–2012), the University of Calgary Graduate Research Scholarship (2007), the 2nd Best Poster Awards in WiSense Workshops (2014, 2010), the Wireless Personal Multimedia Communications (WPMC) Prize (2005), the Asian Institute of Technology Fellowship (2003–2005), and the Government of France Scholarship (2003–2005). Dr. Mahfuz was also nominated for the Excellence Award for Teaching Assistants in Science and Engineering at the University of Ottawa, Canada (2013).
Dr. Mahfuz is an author/co-author of several journal papers, book chapters, and conference papers published internationally. He has an experience of university teaching with students from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. Dr. Mahfuz has also been involved in scholarly activities as technical program committee member of several conferences and technical reviewer of several journals.
He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
