Creating the Future

Phuture Phoenix

8th Grade Campus Visit

In 2016, Phuture Phoenix hosted its first 8th grade campus visit with Edison Middle School. Based on the success of that visit, Phuture Phoenix began to expand the 8th Grade visit as a pilot program.  It is our hope that all GBAPS 8th grade students will be able to participate in a Phuture Phoenix Campus Visit in the near future.

Things had to be done differently in 2020, so we moved our campus visit to a virtual experience hosted by student role models. All participating
8th graders still received a Phuture Phoenix t-shirt and the opportunity to connect with a current college student to learn more about post-secondary options available to them.

In 2021, we found a new way to continue to safely make connections with local 8th graders. We developed a modified Phuture Phoenix experience where student role models visited classrooms to share information about the UWGB campus and provide inspiration for our local 8th graders to think about their post-secondary plans. While the pandemic has changed the way we do many things, it has not diminished our desire to provide an opportunity for students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds to believe post-secondary education is important, attainable and available. We look forward to hosting local 8th graders on the UWGB campus in-person again soon.
