Press Director
The Teaching Press at UW-Green Bay started as a proposal by Professor Rebecca Meacham, a Professor of Humanities, English, Writing, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Funded in 2017 by then-Dean Scott Furlong, the Press launched in 2019 with its first book.
Professor Meacham’s vision for the press is to connect UW-Green Bay students to the larger communities of NE Wisconsin through high-impact, hands-on, authentic professional experience. Along the way, she hopes to enable students to graduate with a portfolio of publications they’ve directed, gleaning professional expertise adaptable to any business environment.
Plus, she just really, really loves books.
As an author, Professor Meacham’s story collection, Let’s Do, won the Katherine Anne Porter Prize in Fiction from UNT Press. was a Barnes & Noble “Discover Great New Writers” selection, was a finalist for both the Paterson Fiction Prize and the ForeWord Book of the Year, and earned a 2005 Wisconsin Library Award for Outstanding Achievement. Her flash fiction collection, Morbid Curiosities, won the New Delta Review Chapbook Contest. Her prose has been set to music, translated into Polish, and carved into woodblocks and letter-pressed by steamroller. Read more about her writing here.
A native Ohioan, Professor Meacham holds an MFA from Bowling Green State University and a PhD from the University of Cincinnati.
In addition to directing The Teaching Press, Professor Meacham founded and directs the UW-System’s only BFA in Writing, co-chairs the English department and advises the undergrads who produce the international journal of the arts, Sheepshead Review. She is a past co-organizer of Green Bay's UntitledTown Festival, and current co-organizer of Door County Reads Fest. She also directs UW-Green Bay's partnership with TimeSlips, an international organization dedicated to co-creative storytelling with elders and caregivers. Her teaching and community collaborations have been recognized by both university and city-wide awards.
Meet the Interns
Since the Teaching Press works as an internship at UW-Green Bay, the staff tends to cycle through each semester. At times, staff doesn’t change much. Other times there is a whole new group of students that have to learn how everything works. However, there is one person who always stays consistent, and that is the current director and head of the Press, Professor Rebecca Meacham.
