UW-Green Bay is proud to be both state and nationally recognized with a number of honors.
State Honors
State's Best Professor
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Associate Prof. Greg Aldrete is the recipient of a 2015 University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents Teaching Excellence Award. A UW-Green Bay faculty member since 1995, Aldrete has been awarded several distinguished titles for his contributions in teaching. In addition to his role as professor, Aldrete has excelled in the field of research. He is a classics scholar renowned for bringing alive the worlds of ancient Rome and Greece for his students. He regularly teaches eight different courses of approximately 450 students per year, as well as numerous independent studies. His teaching methods include analyzing primary documents, holding debates, role-playing, and other hands-on activities. Aldrete’s multi-year Linothorax Project, in which his students re-created and tested the linen armor that Alexander the Great wore during his conquests, has gained both national and international attention.

Universities of Wisconsin’s Best Professor
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Associate Prof. Clifton Ganyard is the recipient of a 2014 University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents Teaching Excellence Award. A 17-year faculty member at the University, Ganyard earned the System’s highest teaching honor thanks to his passion for teaching and continued commitment to interdisciplinarity. Ganyard has taught more than two dozen courses for Humanistic Studies, History and Global Studies. His areas of specialization include modern European, German and Japanese history and culture, Western civilization and European intellectual history.

Universities of Wisconsin's Best Professors
The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents honors the state’s best public university teachers each year with presentation of the Regents Teaching Excellence Awards. UW-Green Bay faculty members dominate the list of 2011-12 award winners, with Psychology Prof. Regan A.R. Gurung of Human Development earning individual recognition, and The Professional Program in Education accepting “department of the year” honors.

Universities of Wisconsin Diversity Award
Angela Bauer, UW-Green Bay Professor of Human Biology and Women's and Gender Studies, in January 2013 was named the individual recipient of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents Diversity Award. During her time at UW-Green Bay, Bauer, who serves as special assistant to the Provost, has undertaken numerous efforts to close the academic achievement gap and increase minority participation in the sciences. She has been particularly lauded for conceptualizing and implementing the Targeted Opportunities for Success in the Sciences (TOSS) program, which has been effective in closing the achievement gap in UW-Green Bay Introduction to Human Biology courses. Bauer also worked with a colleague to develop the course Ethnic Minorities in Science (Human Biology 202), and has spearheaded efforts to bring notable scientists of minority backgrounds to UW-Green Bay.

Best Library in Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Library Association names the Cofrin Library at UW-Green Bay its 2012 State Library of the Year, recognizing excellence in use of technology, physical space, quality of the collection, community service and personal attention to patron learning and research.

Regents award for First Nations Studies
UW-Green Bay’s First Nations Studies program receives the 2012 University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents Diversity Award, with special mention of the program’s emphases on pairing students with Tribal Elders and promoting involvement with local tribal communities.

Best Bang for the Buck Colleges in the Midwest
UW-Green Bay is ranked number 18 in the Best Bang for the Buck Colleges in the Midwest category of the 2015 Washington Monthly College Rankings. The rankings rate universities on students’ social mobility, civic engagement and research.

Top 25 LGBTQ-Friendly School
UW-Green Bay is a 2015 Campus Pride Top 25 LGBTQ-Friendly College and University. The Top 25 listing was awarded based on the Campus Pride Index, a national benchmark in which schools self-assesses LGBTQ-friendly policies, programs and practices. Each campus updates its index annually and uses the Campus Pride benchmarking tool to make improvements for LGBTQ life on campus. UWGB received a 4.5 rating on a 5.0 scale.

Kress Center is ‘most impressive’
UW-Green Bay's award-winning Kress Events Center has been named one of the 20 Most Impressive College Gyms and Student Rec Centers. The recognition from www.bestvalueschools.com considers such factors as design awards, square feet per student and “wow” factor.

Winds of Change Top 200
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is listed as one of the top 200 Colleges for Native Americans in the College Issue of Winds of Change — the media communication channel for the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES).
Fit Friendly Worksite
UW-Green Bay has earned special recognition for its efforts to promote employee wellness, in 2013 achieving gold-level status in the American Heart Association's "Fit-Friendly Worksite" program. The University's Wellness Committee coordinates numerous efforts in support of employee health, sponsoring lunch-and-learn sessions, hosting special fitness classes and seminars, and fielding employee teams for local events such as the Bellin 10K Run. Organizers say the individual advantages of employee wellness are numerous — and experts point to invaluable collective benefits, as well. Studies suggest that implementing a worksite physical activity program helps increase productivity, reduce absenteeism, lower turnover and reduce healthcare costs. The gold-level accolade includes recognition on the AHA's "Start Walking Now" website, as well as at local Heart Association events and in communications materials for the "Fit-Friendly Worksite" program.

Phoenix Women's Basketball is top
The final Associated Press Top 25 poll of spring 2012 places the UW-Green Bay women’s basketball team No 10 in the nation among all major-college, Division I teams. The Phoenix goes on to finish 31-2 with an NCAA tournament win.
The Phoenix women’s basketball team earns the nation’s top academic ranking for 2012 from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, with a collective team GPA of 3.61.

Military Friendly School
Statistics show UW-Green Bay enrolls a larger percentage of veterans and their eligible dependents than any other four-year public university in Wisconsin, with 355 individuals receiving veterans benefits, including 252 veterans and service members as well as dependents. A national publication, names UW-Green Bay a “Military Friendly School” for the fifth consecutive year.

Military Advanced Education’s Top Colleges & Universities
Military Advanced Education (MAE) has awarded UW-Green Bay the designation of a Top School in its 2015 MAE Guide to Colleges & Universities, measuring best practices in military and veteran education.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is seeing STARS thanks to an environmental rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. STARS — the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System — is a program that measures and encourages sustainability in all aspects of higher education.

‘Eco U’ makes Green Colleges guide
UW-Green Bay is selected for inclusion in the Princeton Review’s Guide to 322 Green Colleges: 2013 Edition. The publishers bill their product — created in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council — as focusing “solely on colleges that have demonstrated a notable commitment to sustainability.” This is the second year UW-Green Bay has received this honor.
