Hyeonsik Shin

Assistant Professor

Professor Hyeonsik Shin is an assistant professor in business administration at the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. He earned his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Temple University in 2023, M.S. in Management Information Systems from Seoul National University in South Korea, and B.A. in Urban Administration from the University of Seoul.

His research is about emerging digital platforms, focusing on (a) empirically examining the unexpected societal impact of digital platforms and (b) providing platform providers and policymakers with important regulatory implications using analytical approaches. He received a best paper award nominee at Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems (WITS) 2020 and was selected as a participant in the doctoral consortium at Conference on Health IT and Analytics (CHITA) 2022. He has actively been a reviewer for premier conferences, such as ICISCIST, and ECIS.

Before starting his academic career, he had diverse international experiences, such as serving in the U.S. Army in South Korea, participating in a volunteer program in India, working as a sales intern in Chicago, and studying as an exchange student in Spain.
